Sub-Zero UC-24C and UC-24CI Refrigerator-Freezer Combinations
Two cabinets pretending to be one. A combination undercounter runs refrigerator and freezer behind a single front, with a separate control for each, and the CI version adds a plumbed ice maker. The hole in the joinery is the group's usual one.

Two presets, two halves, one front
Sub-Zero ships these set to 38°F on the refrigerator side and 0°F on the freezer side, with separate controls for the two. That matters the moment something goes wrong, because a fault showing in one half and not the other narrows the field immediately.
What the CI adds
The ice maker cycles eight cubes roughly every two hours. Throw the first few batches away after start-up — new plumbing puts things into the water that have no business in a glass — and expect ice left standing to fuse into a lump, which is cured by emptying the bin. One more thing for the drawing: a combination has no utility bin, unlike the rest of the group.

Frost on the freezer side while the other half is fine
The two halves run on separate controls, so a symptom confined to one belongs to that side. Sub-Zero's list starts outside the cabinet — condenser clean, door closing, gasket sound — before anything internal.

A combination moves air where a single-temperature cabinet need not. A motor gone loud, intermittent or silent reads as one compartment holding its figure and the other quietly drifting.

A probe several degrees away from the panel, or a control that accepts a change and does nothing with it. SERVICE flashes for a temperature problem or a condenser wanting cleaning, so the condenser is ruled out first.

The guide's sequence is the supply, the arm down, the container seated and the freezer near 0°F, with 24 hours since switch-on. Hollow cubes point at the condenser.

Why does the freezer half frost up when the refrigerator half is perfect?
Because they are close to separate machines sharing a box. Each half has a control of its own, so a symptom confined to one of them is that half's problem rather than the cabinet's. Is the plumbed ice maker on the CI worth having?
It depends how much ice a household actually gets through. The CI makes eight cubes about every two hours into a container that pulls straight out, and Sub-Zero warns that ice nobody uses will fuse together. A unit standing idle for weeks at a time needs its bin emptied rather than filled.
